Position Summary:

The Faculty Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining faculty-facing digital learning resources that support teaching excellence and effective use of educational technologies at Bellevue University. This role places a strong emphasis on web development and design, including ownership of the faculty training website, creation of instructional web content, and development of visually engaging and accessible learning materials.

The position also supports faculty professional development through the creation of instructional resources, facilitation of synchronous/asynchronous training sessions, and collaboration with academic and instructional design stakeholders. The Faculty Developer applies principles of pedagogy, instructional design, and educational technology to support faculty success in both online and blended learning environments.

Essential Functions:

Web Development & Digital Resource Management

  • Design, develop, update, and maintain the faculty training website using WordPress.
  • Create and organize faculty-facing web pages that house instructional resources, guides, and training materials.
  • Apply basic HTML and CSS to customize layouts, improve usability, and support accessibility best practices.
  • Source, create, or modify graphics and images for web pages using design tools or approved image repositories.
  • Ensure web content is current, visually consistent, accessible, and aligned with Bellevue University branding and standards.

Educational Resource & Instructional Design Development

  • Design and develop faculty training materials, including PDFs, web-based guides, videos, and interactive learning objects.
  • Support faculty teaching in online learning environments by creating clear, practical resources that address course design, instructional tools, and effective online teaching practices.
  • Develop asynchronous training content using tools such as Articulate, Blackboard, or similar.
  • Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory to ensure resources are pedagogically sound and faculty-centered.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, faculty, and academic leadership to identify faculty development needs and translate them into effective learning materials.

Faculty Communication & Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with faculty regarding available training opportunities, resources, and instructional support through email, newsletters, and web-based announcements.
  • Develop clear, faculty-centered messaging that promotes awareness and adoption of training resources and educational technologies.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure communications are timely, accurate, and aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Support an open and ongoing feedback loop with faculty to understand needs, questions, and areas for additional support.

Faculty Training & Facilitation

  • Facilitate synchronous faculty training sessions, workshops, or demonstrations using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
  • Support faculty learning through clear communication, guided demonstrations, and responsive facilitation techniques.
  • Assist with preparation of training agendas, materials, and follow-up resources for faculty participants.

Miscellaneous

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of current research, trends, and best practices related to faculty professional development, online teaching, instructional design, and educational technology.
  • Monitor faculty development programs and training models at peer institutions to inform innovation and ensure Bellevue University remains current and competitive.
  • Contribute ideas for enhancing faculty training resources, delivery methods, and digital learning experiences based on emerging practices and faculty needs.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned, as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

  • Continuous Learner: Demonstrate initiative in learning new technologies, instructional approaches, and best practices; remain coachable, self-directed, and motivated to grow professionally.

Skills & Abilities

Education: A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred in Education, Instructional Design, Web Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following areas:web development or web content management, instructional design or faculty development, educational technology support or training
  • Experience working in higher education is strongly preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Proficiency with WordPress, including page design, content management, and basic customization.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred.
  • Experience with graphic design tools and image sourcing for digital content.
  • Experience developing learning materials using Articulate or similar authoring tools.
  • Familiarity with Blackboard Ultra or other learning management systems preferred.
  • Comfort learning and supporting emerging educational technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience facilitating or supporting synchronous training sessions (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills with attention to clarity, tone, and accessibility.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with WordPress or other web design tools.
  • Proficiency using content authoring and learning management tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Blackboard, HTML/CSS, Articulate, etc.).
  • General office and internet skills. Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, etc.

Pay & Benefits:

  • The reasonable hiring range for this role is $43,200 – $54,000.
  • Bellevue University staff employees enjoy a benefits package which includes: medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 403(b) retirement and tuition remission.
  • Bellevue University staff also enjoy 10 days of vacation, 10 days of sick leave and 5 days of personal time.
