About the Role

As a Supervisor within the University of Bath’s Front of House team, you’ll take day‑to‑day operational responsibility for one of our busy hospitality outlets. You will lead shifts, support Food & Beverage Assistants and casual staff, and ensure smooth, efficient service at all times. Your duties will include delivering daily briefings, allocating tasks, managing breaks and maintaining our high standards of customer service.

You will be responsible for upholding all food safety, HACCP and due‑diligence procedures, monitoring wastage, overseeing orders and goods receiving, and ensuring accurate portion control. Clear communication with the kitchen team is essential, as is supporting the promotion of marketing campaigns and maintaining accurate menu and information displays.

The role also involves maintaining high health & safety standards, responding to incidents, reporting maintenance issues, and ensuring the workspace remains safe and compliant. You’ll contribute to on‑shift training, support team development, and be encouraged to bring fresh ideas to improve the way we work.

This is a full‑time role (36.5 hours, 5‑over‑7), including early mornings, evenings and weekends, in a fast‑paced, friendly campus environment with opportunities for progression, development, and genuine impact.

We are looking to recruit a full time Teaching Associate in the Sociology of Empire with an emphasis on decolonial/postcolonial sociology from 01 September 2026 or as soon after as possible to provide teaching in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge.

The role holder’s duties will be:

  • Teaching primarily on SOC12 Empire, Colonialism and Imperialism
  • Teaching on the MPhil in Sociology pathway Marginality and Exclusion
  • Leading seminars and classes on research methods or other topics to postgraduate students within the Department 

General duties will include teaching, course development and innovation, and examining. The Teaching Associate will be expected to support and maintain the Department’s and University’s national and international reputation for excellence in teaching. 

You will have relevant teaching experience, hold a PhD in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate active, collegial engagement in research, teaching and outreach in the Sociology of Empire with an emphasis on decolonial/postcolonial sociology.

You will be an engaging and confident teacher at undergraduate and postgraduate level, or looking to develop postgraduate teaching skills. 

The Department of Sociology is part of a joint undergraduate degree programme in Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS) and also has a vibrant MPhil and PhD programme. There are currently about 80 students working on PhDs on a diverse range of topics in sociology.

The Opportunity:

We are looking to employ a postdoctoral researcher on a 36-month contract to join the research group of Professor Susan Rosser, chair of synthetic biology at the University of Edinburgh Centre for Engineering Biology to work on development of gene switches for use in gene therapy. The selected researcher will join an internationally recognised, friendly, diverse, inclusive and enthusiastic team.  You will become part of the Engineered Genetic Control Systems for Advanced Therapeutics Hub. The hub, Directed by Prof Rosser, is a £14M 5-year UKRI sponsored research program across 4 institutions (Edinburgh, Oxford, Imperial, CRUK SI) pioneering engineering biology for advanced therapeutics. It is developing novel genetic tools to render gene therapies safe and effective, with initial focus on oncology, cardiovascular diseases and rare diseases. 

This specific role on developing and experimentally validating engineered genetic switches at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, such as synthetic promoters and riboswitches, for gene therapy applications. The successful candidate will have experience in synthetic biology approaches and expertise in mammalian cell engineering and RNA biology. 

The post holder will have many opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborative working with academic colleagues from the different institutional partners and industry. This includes training and professional development opportunities arising from being embedded and working with communities of translational scientists. 

This post offers an excellent opportunity for academic career advancement in a worlds renowned centre of excellence for synthetic/engineering biology. Further information

We currently operate a hybrid model mixing a minimum of three days each week on campus and two days per week working from home. You would be expected to work on campus on a Tuesday as standard . Having established a regular working pattern, there may occasionally be times where you will need to be on campus at other times during the working week e.g. during assessment weeks when an in person presence is required. This role is offered on a full time basis but we would consider 0.8FTE if preferred.

The new professor will establish and lead an independent, internationally competitive research program in molecular immunology, with a potential for therapeutic translation. About the role

We are currently seeking to appoint a highly motivated, well organised individual to take up the post of Administrator (Timetabling) to help support the delivery of our medical (BMBS) curriculum.

You will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive and confidential administration, working with academic staff and professional services on the creation of the BMBS annual and weekly timetables for Years 1 and 2, and administrate room bookings for all years.

This is a part-time position working 18.5 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 31 July 2027 due to funding. This can be worked as 2.5 days or 3 equal shorter days, with working days to be discussed upon appointment. The post will be located at the John Bull Building, Plymouth Science Park, Derriford, Plymouth. The team has informal arrangements for partial remote working, and we are happy to discuss this with interested applicants.
