Technical Officer (Clinical Skills) at University of Hertfordshire – (Jobs/Scholarships)


FTE: 1FTE (working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus & Meridian House, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of practical teaching equipment for a variety of our Health professional students. This will include setting out equipment required for practical sessions and clearing away at the end of each session using appropriate disposal methods. You will help maintain and operate a range of teaching equipment, reporting any breakages, equipment malfunction and deficiencies. You will carry out stock control duties, maintain relevant inventories and follow procedures for replenishing stocks of consumables as appropriate and have good knowledge of the relevant safety procedures applicable to the healthcare laboratories ensuring these are adhered to by all users. You will work closely with academics and other technical staff and give general assistance to students to enable them to practice in the labs and other facilities.

Skills and experience required

You will have the ability to act independently and as part of a team and have good communication skills, both written and verbal. You will have the ability to follow detailed instructions comprehensively and be flexible and reliable. A methodical approach and attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure is essential as is good IT and organisational skills and good timekeeping. You will be physically fit with the ability to carry out work involving manual handling. Practical experience of working in a medical or teaching environment in a technical role would be advantageous.

Qualifications required

You will be education with a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C/4 or above including Maths and English, or proven experience.
